Skinny Fabulous unfazed by new soca rule in Trinidad

2012 Soca Monarch Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle says he is not disheartened by having to enter the Trinidad Soca Monarch competition at the semi-finals level.

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – “Monster” Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle, who was crowned Soca Monarch on Saturday, is not fazed by having to enter the International Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad next year at the semi-final round.

Previously, winners of national soca monarch competitions entered the event as finalists, but organisers have changed that arrangement.

“Well, yeah. That is a disappointment too but then again, everything has to be done on merit,” Doyle told I-Witness News after being crowned Saturday night.

“… on one hand I understand why Mr. Monroe or the Prestige Co. in Trinidad might have decided, ‘Listen let them come and prove theyself.’ So, I understand it. But I am not fearful of having to climb up one ladder before it because a monster can climb’,” Skinny said.

His “monster” comment was in reference to the name of the song that earned him his fourth Soca Monarch title on Saturday.

  1. This rule should have been implemented a long time ago.It will make some of these guys clean up their act. When they sing they crap they tell the press that’s what the people want but in fact that’s just what a handful of hooligans want not everyone.
