KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – This country has recorded it second homicide in as many days.
Reports reaching I-Witness News indicate that a woman was shot and killed by an intruder into her home in the Prospect/Belvedere area during the predawn hours of Sunday.
A local law enforcement agency spoke of the killing in a post on the social networking website, Facebook but did not mention the name of the dead woman.
The lawman said he was withholding the name until he could confirm that the woman’s relatives, who are overseas, had been notified.
Vincentian journalist Rochelle Baptiste, in a separate post on Facebook, identified the woman as Jennifer Lewis, a 46-year-old teacher.
The killing came on the heel of another Friday night in Vermont, that left 47-year-old Cally Joseph’s two children — a 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl — fatherless, two days before Father’s Day.
A house in the area shows the imprints of what appears to be impact marks of shotgun pellets.
Source tell I-Witness News that residents of the South Leeward community said they heard two different types of gunshots, suggesting that there was more than one assailant or that more than one firearm was used.
Earlier reports also say that the man was shot eight times.
“It seems like they really meant to kill him,” said one source that spoke on condition of anonymity, adding that police have questioned a close relative of the slain man in connection with the crime.
It was not immediately clear if police — who are might issue a bulletin on Monday — consider that relative a suspect in Joseph’s death.
The killing of the woman on Sunday is the second such homicide in the last six months.
An intruder killed dental technician Ewart “Ells” King at his Pembroke home on Dec. 3.
The murderer is suspected to be escaped prisoner Godwin Moses who police shot and killed later that month.
Police say that Moses had King’s licenced firearm at the time of his death.
Jennifer worked as an artisan/artist at a pottery development program at the old cotton storage house at Frenches, (across the street from my home). She struck me as a friendly but reserved person. She seemed quite dedicated at
her work. Many a Sunday she would be at the ‘studio’ working all by herself. She obviously had a passion for her work. It was a pleasure to observe her from time to time always so focused at her craft.

Posted by Dr. Bernard Mills | June 17, 2012, 18:16And so it goes on!
Posted by Peter | June 18, 2012, 07:27Got that right Dr. Mills, Ells was assassinated, PEROID!!!!!! OWN THE MURDERS!!!!
Posted by vincy in bad shape | June 18, 2012, 10:52Scary stuff! Makes one think twice before moving back home. Not that it doesn’t happen elsewhere, but when we look back at the Vincy we knew, its hard to come to terms with all these killings; right in your own home. We need to root out these murderers from among us. I am one for allowing law abiding citizens to own arms for home protection and business owners for protecting their businesses.
If I cant get a firearms license when I go back home, I’ll have to think twice about resettlement. I’ve been carrying one for the past several years and never had to use it, except at the range, thank God. Nevertheless, you never know, just in case.
Posted by Eric Williams | June 18, 2012, 13:21It is evidenciary “HEARSAY”, apparently from the mouth of two ‘witnesses’, one of whom was NOT on the previous, fatal, ‘bus ride, that GOODWIN MOSES “had KING’s licensed firearm at the time of his death.” The police have absolutely NO ACTUAL PROOF of this – - – and only the word of one questionable source.
That gun, to all intent and purposes, was ‘recovered’ or found AT ABOUT ARNOS VALE. The arresting police DID NOT FIND THAT GUN ON MOSES’s person or, later, dead corpse. Police NEVER, FOUND MOSES WITH THAT GUN. The law- men may have been derelict, or at least ineffective, in their searches, here. The rest of that story is weak, speculative, SUPPOSITION. No wonder that such specious ‘evidence’ was NOT, to the best of my knowledge, SUBMITTED TO ANY COURT OF LAW. I needs to be legally challenged. But, I guess, that DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.
Why judge, convict, and condemn the SLAUGHTERED MAN, after he has been SHOT DEAD, apparently, under arrest, handcuffed, and lying prostrate on the ground in ordered surrender to police – - – HOW ON EARTH WAS THIS VINCENTIAN YOUTH ABLE TO “RUN AWAY’ FROM POLICE, INTO THE BUSHES, WITH HEAVILY ARMED POLICE THERE GUARDING HIM – - – and reportedly “shot” as a result ?
The timeline and spatial analysis does not place that stolen gun in Moses’ hand. The investigation for ELLS’ murderers, or APPARENT ASSASINS should go on.
Ells was closely involved in at least two major activist demonstrations just shortly before his murder/assasination, NOT UNLIKE THE ACTIVITIES OF ‘SERVANT OF THE LORD’ who has mysteriously been “DISAPAREDOS.”
The assasination theory for the EWART “ELLS” KING CASE does seem to merit some further official investigation.

Posted by Joe | June 18, 2012, 21:58The Ells case is still strange, dead men tell no tales, imagine if they had shot the kid they suspected of killing Glen Jackson instead of having a court case,Vincentians would just believe he was guilty and let it end there,it’s like watching Law and Order without the court trials because the police found someone to shoot..and if the New Yorkers on the show were stupid people who never asked questions and believed the police was always right..that version of Law and Order would get cancelled after 1 season..It’s like the Salem Witch Trials where they drowned innocent women,if they floated they were witches but if they drowned they were innocent..if the police suspect you of something shoot you and you die then you were probably guilty.
Posted by Joe | June 18, 2012, 22:06I am the oldest nephew of Jennifer Lewis. And would just like to say that the reporter who released my aunty name before any of us had been informed, is damn right out of order, and in future needs to show a little morxe respect where circumstances are concerned. She had no right in doing so.
Posted by Omar Lewis | June 19, 2012, 08:29DR. BERNARD MILLS, why don’t you PROVIDE the EVIDENCE that ELLS death was an ASSASSINATION?
Again, all you and the other NDP members know to do is resort to SPINNING and NEGATIVE PROPAGANDA.
Posted by VINCY POWA (@VINCYPOWA) | June 19, 2012, 10:30VINCYPOWA, there are still MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS in relation to ELLS’ death. Not all ah we are completely dumb and stupid. An inquest is still outstanding, to the very best of my knowledge. If Moses was somehow directly involved, then the question arises of WHO ELSE WAS INVOLVED – - – especially in light of his oh so CONVENIENT “ESCAPE”.
Justice must not only BE DONE, but, MUST BE SEEN TO BE DONE, also.
Submit the investigative information and evidence to a legally constituted inquest, as is the normal legal procedure. WHY NOT ?
Posted by STEVE_HUGGINS | June 19, 2012, 15:55I wish to offer my sincerest condolences on the tragic passing of my colleague, JENNIFER LEWIS, to her immediate family, nephew OMAR LEWIS, other relatives, and friends. May the Almighty ONE help them all to cope with this great, unfair, loss, and spiritually/emotionally recuperate to the honour of Ms. Lewis. May Jennifer Rest In Peace.
I regret the precipitate disclosure of your aunt’s name in this case, Omar, despite the apparent wishes of the police authorities. Incidentally, I am related by blood to the LEWISes of LAYOU, BRIDGETOWN, AND the Greater Georgetown Area.

Posted by JAi | June 19, 2012, 21:50PLEASE accept my CONDOLENCES, JAI, on the sad, premature, passing of your aunt JENNIFER LEWIS, Art Teacher extraordinaire. She left the metropole in order to more personally, directly, take care of her senior citizen Mom. And, myriad SVG students benefitted as a result. R.I.P., Jennifer.
