Gonsalves, Emir of Qatar hold talks aboard yacht

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves met for two hours with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani aboard the Arab leader’s yacht Wednesday night.

“I want to say Mr. Speaker, the relationship between our two countries is deepening. A delegation is coming from Qatar soon to deal with a series of matters in relation to investments not only in St. Vincent but on the Grenadine islands in relation to the airport,” Gonsalves told Parliament Thursday of the meeting that began at 8 p.m.

“And they also offers of scholarships for students. But they have to be excellent students because … they have the university city in Qatar where there are six branches of world-renowned universities … and it would be very good or us to broaden the number of scholarships we are getting from top class institutions for our students,” he further said.

Gonsalves did not say what was the nature of the Emir’s visit to this country or how long he stayed.

No announcement of the Emir’s visit was made and the meeting between the two leaders took place shortly after Gonsalves returned to the country after officials visits to Taiwan and London

Kingstown’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the late night talks.

  6. BERMVINCY, you can’t blame people for poking fun at such a big headed liar. they are only extending what they believe to be his character.

What they are really saying is that they believe Gonsalves will go to any lengths to collect airport money.

  7. Haiti had its Tonton Macoute (established in 1959), Granada its Mongoose Gang (established in the 1970s) – all to surpress any form of opposition. And now SVG has its Black Squad?! To do what?

  8. There is much to be concerned about with Qatar’s public integrity system. Qatar’s performance in virtually every key area of good governance is lacking. Of particular note is the absence of any mechanism through which citizens can make information requests to the government. Legislative accountability also remains inadequate: public officials are not subject to financial disclosure requirements, there are no laws governing gifts and hospitality offered to public officials, and citizens have no access to documents recording legislative debates. Other areas of concern include the lack of accountability in the national judiciary. Although there is an independent judicial oversight mechanism, members of the judiciary are not subject to robust financial disclosure requirements or governed by conflict of interest regulations. Power is concentrated in the executive, with the Emir holding absolute uncontested authority: indeed, “there is no ruling party in Qatar, but rather a ruling family, a family Dictatorship, led by the head of state, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Having said that, the Emir’s politics differ from Gonsalves in as much as the Emir has recognized the rebels in Libya as the legal government, Gonsalves has refused to do so. The Emir does not agree with Syria’s treatment of its people and recommends that military force should be used if they fail to act upon Kofi Anans peace plan. Gonsalves has supported Syria at the UN.

If hes trying to hit on the Emir, watch Gonsalves change his views and opinions. Thats why I wrote to the Emir.

  9. DWELLS, whatever you think that you’re IMPLYING, as Dr. Gonsalves like to say, IS RUBBISH.

That said; do not be a COWARD, feel free to COMPLETE your THOUGHT about the BLACK SQUAD.

In other words, do not have us HANGING.

Our minds are BLANK. We will RESPOND when you tell us what the BLACK SQUAD is there to do.

  10. DWELLS, ignore the VINCYPOWA, no one respects anything that he writes. He is best kept to his snurging and cottaging antics with JASON.

The Black Sqad are the regimes private police force, they protect the regimes interest, they are always at Buccament when there is a dispute with people who want paying.

VINCYPOWA, if you want further information ask Donkey Dung Gonsalves yard boy Francis the Philistine.
By the way thanks for helping me name this pair of twerps.
