CDC launches Carnival cable channels

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Lovers of Vincy Mas who are unable or unwilling to go to the Victoria Park to see the shows can now watch live or relayed broadcast on cable television.

The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) on Tuesday launched three channels dedicated to the broadcast of Vincy Mas content.

“This is, I believe, one of the best things to happen to the carnival for a long time and certainly one of the bigger things for Vincy mas 2012,” Hans King, chair the committee responsible for the channel, said at a CDC media briefing.

“This was the brainchild of a committee within the Carnival development Corporation who came up with the idea of having this 24-hour channel,” said King, who is also press secretary to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

“We are in fact going live right now on VC3. This is the first time, I believe, that we are having a press conference for the Carnival Development Corporation going live on television,” King further stated.

He said that VC3 — Channel 203 — is a programming channel that broadcasts 24 hours a day.

Channel 204 will broadcast Vincy Mas shows live, beginning with the Miss SVG pageant on Saturday.

Channel 205, a delayed pay-per-view channel, will broadcast packaged or full-length versions of shows at later dates. This channel will also broadcast rural shows.

“This really is a grand idea …” King said of the channels, which are the result of a partnership with the National Lotteries Authority and Karib Cable.

CDC Chair Dennis Ambrose declared the channels duly launched, saying:

“As of this moment, viewers can re-programme their cable boxes and activate those channels. … I have no hesitation in saying that this cable channel is a bold step for the CDC and most distinctly in the right direction. Vincy Mas will most certainly benefit from these … advancements.
