KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – A local company that advocates for religious liberty is threatening to sue over slanderous or libelous remarks that may be made against it.
Ann-Marie Ballantyne, secretary-general and public relations officer of the Thusian Institute For Religious Liberty Inc. (TIRL) said in a statement Monday that her organization “has become aware of some persons who are engaging in the spread of propaganda via the electronic media, clearly aimed at misrepresenting its character and those of its members.
“We wish to categorically state here that any findings of slanderous remarks and or libelous publications against us may be subject to litigation in the court of law as the TIRL has legal personality,” Ballantyne’s statement further said.
The TIRL said it was also taking the opportunity to explain that it is a “a non-profit, non-governmental COMPANY as a Human Rights’ Education service provider with special emphasis on the Right to Religious Liberty.
“Our main business is to advocate for the protection of the fundamental INALIENABLE rights of man.”
The statement said the TIRL was incorporated into St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Feb. 7, 2008 and officially launched on Oct. 12, 2008.
“It is company number 10 of 2008 incorporated under the Company’s Act 1994. The TIRL is funded by its members, fund raising activities and contributions from members of the Thusia Seventh Day Adventist church (TSDAC),” the statement further said.
Meanwhile, Jeanell A. James, secretary and treasurer of the TSDAC, said in a separate statement Monday, “During the past week, a plethora of propaganda has been spread against the Thusia Seventh-Day Adventist Church, questioning its existence as well as the source and validity of our financial operations”.
The church affirmed that it has been in existence here for approximately 15 years and is “an independent, revival and reformation of True Seventh-Day Adventism and ancient apostolic Christianity”.
James further said that tithes and offerings are the church’s sole means of funding, in accordance with Malachi 3:10.
She further said that unlike the TIRL, the TSDAC is not a company and urged persons who “wish to conduct further investigations” about the entity to visit http://www.escapeforthylife.com “for truthful information”.

Posted by true vincy | May 8, 2012, 11:43Ah, but you see the right to freedom of speech is an unlimited freedom only when Ms Baptiste exercises that inalienable right (and I suppose that may apply to the Thusians as well so that Mr Ballantyne can state that the Roman Catholic Church says that the Pope is divine). And Parnell Campbell is wrong when he says that rights are never unlimited because they have to limited by the rights of others. I suppose the Catholics can now sue Mr Ballantyne for his statement about the Church’s position on the nature of the Pope. My understanding has always been that the R.C. Church says the Pope is infallible, not divine – but he’s infallible only when he is pronouncing on the doctrines of the Church. (So, for example, if he says that Israel should bomb Iran tomorrow, that is not an infallible pronouncement). I do not accept the idea of Papal Infallibility and so I am not a Roman Catholic. What I cannot expect is that I should join the Catholic Church, become a spokesperson for the Church, and then declare publicly that I will not abide by that or any other teaching of the Church. Nor should one expect to join a political party, become its spokesperson both in and out of Parliament and refuse to abide by the Party’s position. And furthermore, as a spokesperson of a political party that hopes to become the party of government in a country in which that outcome depends on the votes of all citizens rather than on the barrel of a gun, I would expect that commonsense, if nothing else, would tell Ms Baptiste that it is rather foolish, whatever one’s view of one’s rights to freedom of speech, to antagonize a fairly large section of the populace on a matter as sensitive as religion belief. If I find that hypocritical, or contrary to my perception of what freedom of speech entails, then I should not be a politician; or at least I should be a lone politician, where my statements affect no one but myself.

The black hole video was kind of eye rolling– so I only watched like 1 minute of it. I don’t know about any other person but (I can’t believe that I am going to say this), RELIGION is becoming a big problem. Well, I should say WHACKO RELIGION’S.
I used to go to the seventh day adventist church who places a big emphasis on the Sabbath. Now I currently don’t attend any church (although I don’t have a problem with them). While going through something’s I later came to figure out after actually reading the bible that the people who went to the church (and other churches) were not living the way they were supposed too. What do I mean by the above statement ?
Well, a lot of people really seemed to not have Jesus as their personal saviour. I wasn’t judging them or looking down on them, I was just making an observation. I,however, was made fun off in the church and by the world for my new found beliefs. I wasn’t too vocal about it as I am a quiet person.
The Jesus I found myself– alone in my bedroom– talked about the power of prayer, forgiveness, genuineness, peace, love for all, giving to the poor ,etc. This Jesus thought me about the issues of the heart that we all go through, and this is why I love him, this is where I found peace.Some of these religions seem to take a lot of stuff out of context and have hidden agendas. They worry about things that really don’t matter (e.g Sabbath day, pants, clothing, jewellery, role of women), and preach gloom and doom (e.g we will all burn in hell). What about the peace that we could find in Christ (the peace from financial worries, sexual abuse, hatred, etc).
Lastly (I guess I strayed from the point) Why are they trying to sue? Oh I guess this is not really about the freedom that could be found in Christ — (as they are a religiously affiliated institution, who preaches Christianity) , but about petty rubbish issues like people calling up your name.I know people who have been defamed very much worst than being called a cult. GET OVER IT. I have nothing against religion really, and I would like to start going back to church- a contemporary one (especially with my wife who was a victim of Whacko Religion and no longer wishes to participate or know’s what she believes). I just wish that sometimes these warped looking people and institutions who offer no peace for the soul, and profit off of Christ, God, etc would just go away. What are they playing in politics for anyway. Now I really believe- after seeing the website– that they wanted to hijack the country, and make the people wear that disgusting looking attire.

Did Jesus fought for His rights when he was wrongly murdered? NO! Did he threaten to sue the Scribes and Pharasees for libel and slander and wrongful persecution ? NO!
The christian’s MAIN, in fact, our ONLY business is to preach Christ and Him crucified and to make desciples for the kingdom. We know that we are Christ’s desciples “if we have LOVE”. Nowhere in the new Testament does it say that we are Christ desciples if we make it our MAIN business to protect inalienable human rights of man.
As a Christian I am willing to have my alienable rights trampled on or even taken away, if it brings glory to God and promotes the cause of Christ. What does the bible say: What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? or What shall a man exchange for his soul? NOTHING in this world.
Frankly speaking I think my TIRL friends are totally confused and misguided. The beauty is this. We were all confused and misguided once. But God still loves us. So as christians were are called to Love and pray for our confused and misguided TIRL friends.

I have come to realise that the Thusia is a religious group/org. and not one that necessarily follows the Bible and trust the Holy Spirit. I read their mission statement which is quite lengthy and there is nothing in it nor anything on the website which points an individual to God. How are persons “born again” into that religion? Not only should there be rebirth of the mind when one encounters Jesus, but the entire man is transformed: body, soul and spirit. The Thusias seem only to focus on a rebirth of the mind which is dangerous – indoctrination.
I would love a Thusia to weigh in on this post, please.

These are the same people who were screaming for freedom of speech to criticize other religions and the governing party and recently the NDP. Now the shoe it on the other foot they are singing a different song. Is this organization a political party or a religious body? There are more questions than answers about this organization, hence the reason that people are raising red flags about them. This is the 1st of it’s kind to be more politically inclined than religiously inclined. It seems to me that the main objective is to be in government and in the parliament than to bring people to know Christ as their personal savior.
I have heard one of it’s member calling the PM all kind of names and I am yet to hear him say he is going to sue her, more recently I heard her calling the leader of the opposition a liar. Now it seems all of a sudden she knows the law more than any other lawyer in SVG. This trend is worrying since it seems like she is on a campaign to indoctrinate the youths on the wrong path. It is people like these we must be very mindful of since they intend to bully their way no matter what.
It is the right of any citizen to question any organization if they feel that they are not operating in the best interest of our citizens, so when you get what you give do not cry foul stand up and face the music. If you want to play mass you cannot beafraid of power.

The policy adopted by the NDP reads as follows:
“no candidate or potential candidate of the party should make any public statements which are averse to any religion”
The following is the judgement of Sister Baptise:
The policy is against the God-given Religious Liberty Right of an individual. It is also against our constitutionally protected freedom of Conscience.
Questions:
1. What exactly is the God-given religious liberty of an individual?…. Where exactly in the bible does Jesus Christ under the new covernant gives religious liberty to individuals or Christians to OPENLY and PUBLICLY redicule, lable, judge and adversely debase another religion?
2. Where exactly did the Thusians get the doctrine that God has called it to openly and publicly make adverse statements against other Christian religion such as the Catholic Church or any other religion for that matter? Is the answer to that “Freedom of conscience?” So tell me now, is “Freedom of Conscience” GOD? If so, whose God? Do we all create our own gods base on the dictates of our indivisual consciences? If the Thusians’ argument is that right and wrong and our inalienable rights are determined by the freedom of our consciences, then the logical conclusion is that God has called us to construct gods based on the freedom of our consciences. So what… God is no longer GOD? Our “Freedom of Conscience” supercede GOD HIMSELF?
This has Got to be CRAZY RELIGIOUS MUMBOJUMBO.
3. Why is the Thusians so upset when the PM calls it a cult? If the Thusians are so convinced that individuals should be given the right to publicly make adverse statements about religious group, shouldn’t the Thusians be defending the PM against those NDP supporters who said that what the PM did was wrong. Indeed, the Thusian should be telling the NDP supporters that the PM was just exercising his inalienable rights and freedom of conscience. Did they do that? NO! They too lambased the PM.
So now the NDP, formulates a policy, which is consistent with its philosophy and the spirit of the constitution.. a kinder and gentler society.. tolerance.. respect etc and which is consistent with the principles of Christ.. Love for neighbour, judge not that you may not be judge.. take the beam out of your own eye before you try to take the speck out of your brother’s eye… seek peace and pursue it ..etc etc.
The Thusians is crying foul. So what is the Thusian’s vision for a perfect political party? A party with people of different religious getting up every monday morning and publicly bad talking each other religion? It appears to me that this thing is not about freedom of religion, conscience and God given inalienable right. Its is not about proclaiming and practicing the values and principle of Christ. This appears to be a matter of spiritual arrogance. Here is a relifious group, which believe that its man-made doctrines are somehow infallible and it has the right to impose such doctrines on the rest of us including the NDP.
Of course our Christian duty has to do with looking at the interest of the poor and depressed. We do so with the love of God in our hearts and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We do so to bring God the glory not to promote ourselves. Our main business as Christians is to preach Christ both in words and actions. We are called to preach Christ enen when we are wronged, abused, misused, disenfranchized, and mistreated. We are called to give up our rights and even our very lives for the cause of Christ. Why, because we serve a all powerful God. Our lives are in Him and in Him alone. Not in our “freedom of conscience”. Not in our Inalienable right. Not in our freedom to make adverse public statements about the faith of other, no matter how much we disagree. It is God who calls. It is God who change humans. It is God who saves. He never called us to make our own gods base on our freedom of conscience. This is unscriptual. It does not represent the Gospel of Christ. Why is it that we have not seen more members of the SDA church becoming members of the Thusian Institute? Have they distanced themselves from this organization?
I would like to hear from the hierarchy of the SDA church on the principles of this organization and how it is affiliated to the main body of the SDA.
I have been asking the SDA church in various islands about the association with the Thusian Institute and they have no idea what this organization is all about, most of them have never heard about the Thusians.

Gonsalves at times has has claimed similarity to Jesus Christ. At some time he has claimed to be Marxist, at other times he has claimed to be a good Catholic boy, at other times claimed that he only does Obeah for the lord, that is Saten.
Can anyone in SVG be worse than this the most dishonourable Gonsalves. He sues at the drop of a hat, is he the only one that is allowed to sue?
He sues and gets huge award amounts, I keep asking does he deserve such awards?
If anyone try and sue him they will never get past the DPP, if he sue he gets undeserved awards.
