HIGH WYCOMBE, United Kingdom — Vincentians here were recently updated on progress at the Argyle International Airport, the nation’s largest capital project ever.
Director of Special Projects in the Office of the Prime Minister and former Minister of Telecommunications, Dr. Jerrol Thompson, addressed Vincentians on the project at the Hilltop Community Centre in High Wycombe.
Thompson explained the government’s commitment in building a post-colonial, modern economy on a national, regional and international level with Argyle International Airport being a truly historical landmark capital project.
The building of the terminal by the Overseas Engineering and Construction Company is well underway with the completion date, including the three-kilometre runway being 2013, with full operation of the airport scheduled for early 2014.
He stressed the importance of having the airport in boosting the economy through tourism, attracting investment, creating jobs and service contracts, diversifying the agricultural sector and creating lower-cost, seamless travel for all visitors, including Vincentians, by having direct routes to St. Vincent.
He stressed that the airport is for the people, something to be proud of and endorsed, regardless of their political views.
Many Vincentians at home and abroad have asked how they may become involved in such a vital development project.
There is a contributory fund at the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Account Number 200884. Persons wishing to contribute by cheque or money order can make them out to “AIA Contributory Fund”.

The event was organised by the High Commission for St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in London in partnership with the Wycombe Multicultural Organisation (WMCO).
Invited guests included nationals, chairs of the various SVG National Associations in the United Kingdom and friends of SVG.

The PHANTOM PROJECT at ARGYLE, so DEEMED by the NDP and their HEADLESS SUPPORTERS, is RISING VERTICALLY.
Posted by vincypowa | March 28, 2012, 20:18Were these people told how the airport carries a curse and is now called the Christian Blood Airport [CBA].
Were they told that many of the people who owned land at the airport site have not been paid in the last three years.
Were they told that Gonsalves has been seeking money from rubbish states such as Iran who execute Iranian Christians, because they are Christians. They pay SVG money for the airport, then SVG in return votes for them in the UN, to protect them against charges of murdering Christians.
If you in the Diaspora want to mingle your money with dirty blood money, so be it.
Posted by Peter | March 28, 2012, 20:39So Vincypowa, are you saying that Peter’s statement is untrue?
Posted by Tony | March 29, 2012, 08:55OMG when will you small minded people ever grow up.
Posted by james | March 29, 2012, 13:49TONY, I am SAYING that PETER is just ENGAGING in WORTHLESS PROPAGANDA.
Let me ask you two questions.
Who is Venezuela BIGGEST TRADING PARTNER?
Who is CHINA’S BIGGEST TRADING PARTNER?
Posted by vincypowa | March 29, 2012, 17:57And what does Venezuela’s and China’s trading partners have to do with the airport? Once more, stupidity raises its ugly head.
Posted by Scratching My Head | March 30, 2012, 17:32WOW! so you VINCYPOWA hereby declare that CHINA and VENEZUELA are crap rubbish states, that’s a turn up for the books.
You must of changed horses, look everyone VINCYPOWA is now a turncoat. What’s wrong haven’t you had this months share out of US Dollars. You need to put this right because Gonsalves will turn his spite on you.
Watch now how VINCYPOWA talk his way out of this.
Posted by Peter | March 30, 2012, 07:37When you tell the people in High Wycombe half a story that is riddled with lies, then that omitted must be to deceive those people, and is an accumulative lie.
The people of the Diaspora need to get the other side of the story all the time, because they can’t rely on the word of Marxist regime whose policy includes telling lies.
You are being fooled.
Posted by Peter | March 30, 2012, 18:05SCRATCHING MY HEAD, continue scratching your head, because it seems like you’re a bit slow, but I am sure those who are not slow understood the purpose of the questions.
Nevertheless, let me help you out, because I do not want you to scratch your head forever.
The reason I asked those two questions was to show that if the UNITED STATES, the CHAMPION of DEMOCRACY, are the BIGGEST TRADING PARTNERS of VENEZUELA and CHINA, why is it a PROBLEM for St. Vincent and the Grenadines to have relations with any of those nations?
Isn’t SVG a SOVEREIGN NATION who has the RIGHT to ESTABLISH RELATIONS with COUNTRIES that its government, which was ELECTED by the MASSES, deems will aid in the BETTERMENT and DEVELOPMENT of our NATION and PEOPLE?
That said; allow me to QUOTE the Charge d’Affaires to the United States Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados, Christopher Sandrolini, who was INTERVIEWED by the Searchlight Newspaper.
“There are a lot of reasons for the United States to have concerns with Venezuela, but we’re certainly not saying that St Vincent cannot develop its own economic and political relations in its own interest.”
“Venezuela is an oil producer, and through Petro Caribe, this makes petroleum products available at discounted prices. This is important to any oil importing nation.”
This is COMMENTARY coming from the SEARCHLIGHT as well: “Charge d’Affaires to the United States Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados, Christopher Sandrolini told SEARCHLIGHT that the US looks with concern at Venezuela and some of what he termed “undemocratic activities” which take place in that country, but that was no reason for St Vincent and the Grenadines or any other Caribbean territory not to develop its own economic and political relations.”
“He further contended that the US is on good terms with the Prime Ministers of all Eastern Caribbean States and more specifically with Vincentian Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.”
SOURCE: SEARCHLIGHT NEWSPAPER of the 30th of March 2012.
So while you CONTINUE to SCRATCH your HEAD, like Eustace and the NDP, INTELLIGENT PEOPLE and TRUE LEADERS are FOSTERING RELATIONS with COUNTRIES for the BETTERMENT of their country’s INTEREST.
We do not have a LEADER who is too much of a COWARD and so would have been too CRIPPLED to take BOLD STEPS towards the DEVELOPMENT of this BLESSED NATION, because he is too WORRIED about what AMERICA or the IMF will say.
If that is the KIND of LEADER and GOVERNMENT you want, so be it. But the MAJORITY of VINCENTIANS PREFER a PROGRESSIVE and FEARLESS LEADER and GOVERNMENT and that is why Dr. Gonsalves and the ULP are at the FOREFRONT of MOVING this NATION FORWARD.
SEE YOU AROUND BUB.
Posted by vincypowa | March 31, 2012, 13:22The difference is that straight trading and friendship with a country is one thing, associating with states just for the purpose of taking money from them to vote for them at the UN is something totally different, there can be no comparison drawn.
I understand that you are of a very low mentality and explaining things to you doesn’t mean you understand what I write.
We can change the world with friendship, or we can support evil by prostituting SVG. Gonsalves chose the latter, and he is supported by people like you VINCYPOWA, just more Marxist rubbish.
Gonsalves has taken us forward into a pit of pig shit. We are wallowing up to our necks in crap that Gonsalves has sucked us into. He is a coward, I have seen him slapped and running on more than one occasion as a young man. Now he hides behind a crowd of policemen to protect him, allowing him to call people all sorts of dreadful names. TOP CLASS COWARD.
