KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – The three-week-long manhunt for escaped prisoner and accused murderer Godwin Moses has ended.
Police shot and killed the 27-year-old Rillan Hill, South Leeward man on Sunday between Happy Hill and Mt. Wynne, in the neighbouring constituency of Central Leeward.
Well-placed sources tell I-Witness News that Moses was in a mini-van going towards the Central Leeward town of Barrouallie when cops stopped the vehicle.
He escaped from the vehicle and police hunted him down, shooting him in the process.
Sources say that Moses was armed with a .38 calibre revolver with one round of ammunition in it.
According to sources, the gun is believed to have belonged to dental technician Ewart “Ells” King, who was stabbed to death by an intruder into his Pembroke, South Leeward home last week Sunday.
The sources noted that while police are yet to confirm the ownership and origins of the gun that Moses had in his possession, a .38 handgun carries five rounds of ammunition and on the night that King was killed, residents of his Pembroke community are said to have heard the sound of four gunshots.
Moses escaped from her Majesty’s Prison in Kingstown on Nov. 21, when 37 prison wardens were on duty.
Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said last week that he had asked that Assistant Commissioner of Police Michael Charles, his former personal bodyguard, be assigned to an investigate Moses’ escape and the Nov. 25 death of accused murder Alberto Danzell at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, after falling ill.
Gonsalves said that he has received a report from prison officials, adding that while he was satisfied with the report, he felt that there ought to be further investigations.
He further noted that it is not a criminal investigation because there is no suggestion of a criminal conspiracy.
He said a distinction must be made between negligence and a criminal conspiracy, adding that the investigation would review “ of all of the facts”.
Moses and Tameka Sutherland, 19, were jointly charged with the murder of Steveon Springer of Layou.
Springer was shot in the head and hip in Kingstown while holding his one-year-old daughter in his arms.
Shame they killed him, now we may never know the truth of his escape or assisted release.
Something in Kingstown smells.

I don’t like the connection with Ells death, I doubt very much that this guy had Ells’ gun or even had anything to do with his death.According to well placed sources , the police already know who his killer is . I guess they’re making sure they have everything in order before they make that arrest. We may well be diverting attention from the real killer.

I did not make the comment about Moses death because I would like him to live, I question his death because it may well cover up a conspiracy. Now he is dead he is silenced, we can never know the truth. Was he released to take the blame for Ells death, did he kill Ells, or was Ells assassinated for political reasons.
If we assume he killed Ells out of getting equal, the police should of notified Ells he was loose.
Of course Ells should have been notified that Moses was loose, they would of or should of known that Moses posed a threat to Ells. The police owed Ells a duty of care, as they do every citizen, regardless of party.
By the way I am not an NDP supporter, I have never voted for them. I just feel that anyone would make a better leader than the present Marxist, even a dirty stinking dog would be an improvement.

I am sure if people stick to the facts there will be no reason for name calling and the other garbage that appears in print.
That said; I am examining Peter’s comments more closely, because of Jackson’s murder some years ago. The murderer(s) were never found and if this dentist was involved in politics and belonged to the party, then there may be reasons to query this investigation by the police. No one showed a link between the dentist and the guy Moses and this kind of speculation is dangerous.
The entire episode is confusing because of diverse reports. Was he released, or had he escaped? If he escaped then why wasn’t his picture posted all over the place, so people could recognize him and turn him in? This guy was not in the mountains or in the bushes, but on a bus. Did the authorities think he’d play Santa Clause and walk into a police station with gifts?
I’d rather some one other that the police do the investigation. The police should not investigate themselves. If they do many people would believe it was a white wash.
I also have a problem with the police attitude of “shoot to kill”. These guys with guns should get target practice that enables them to shoot to disable, not to kill. There are still too many unsolved murders in SVG and by killing these culprits several investigations fall off the books, because “dead men tell no tales”.
